Support Overview

Many people who have been diagnosed and treated for cancer go on to live long and full lives. And many of those people have taken advantage of the variety of support groups available to cancer patients and their families.

Support groups can provide cancer patients with tools to help them cope with the psychological aspects of cancer and how the disease is affecting their lives and the lives of their friends and families. Your oncologist and medical providers are specialized in the treatment of cancer, but cancer and cancer treatment can present emotional and psychological challenges as well. Many patients have found support groups to be invaluable at this time in their lives.

Listed below are a number of support groups available to people with cancer, some of which are sponsored by Redwood Regional Medical Group. Many of these support groups are tailored to specific cancer diagnoses and all are led by a certified therapist or licensed social worker, specialized in the challenges cancer patients are confronted by during and after their treatment.

What About Me? - Art oriented groups for kids who have a parent, family member, or friend with cancer. Age groups meet on Thurdsays from 3:30pm to 5:00pm as follows: Kids 11 and under, 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month; Teens, 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month.
